Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between financial information reliability and information asymmetry for the listed companies on Tehran Stock Exchange. To this aim, a sample of 87 listed companies on the Tehran Stock Exchange from 2008 to 2015 were collected and investigated. The bid-ask spread was selected as information asymmetry measure. Also, material financial restatement occurrence and magnitude of financial restatement were employed as adverse measures of financial information reliability. For the research purposes, two hypotheses were proposed. Multivariable linear regression analysis was used to test the hypotheses on a panel data mode. Findings from the study showed that the occurrence of material restatement and magnitude of restatement are positively related to information asymmetry. In other words, there is a negative relationship between financial information reliability measures and information asymmetry.
